Pros
For a CM, his pace is actually very solid. He's quick enough to keep up with transitions both offensively and defensively.
Carrick surprises with excellent long shots and shot power, especially when you let him operate from outside the box.
This is where Carrick truly shines. He’s an outstanding playmaker, capable of spraying short passes to maintain possession or launching accurate long balls to switch play or release wingers.
Carrick isn’t flashy, but he’s surprisingly agile for a holding midfielder. His ball control is tight, and he turns smoothly under pressure.
One of the standout areas. His interceptions, positioning, and standing tackles are top-notch. He reads the game extremely well and is always in the right place to cut out passes or block shots.
Carrick’s strength and body presence give him the edge in shoulder-to-shoulder duels. He can hold off opponents, win challenges, and retain possession under pressure.
Cons
4-star weak foot, occasionally limits options under pressure, especially if forced to play quickly on his left.
3-star skill moves, makes him predictable in tight spots when pressured by agile midfielders.
Finishing inside the box, He’s not the man to rely on for poacher-like goals, he’s more of a buildup and edge-of-the-box type.

Final Verdict
Michael Carrick is the ideal CM for players who value control, rhythm, and tactical stability. He’s not a flair player, but he’s the kind of midfielder that quietly dominates games, doing the simple things extremely well. Use him as a deep-lying playmaker or as a balanced CM with a defensive edge, and he’ll perform consistently.
